School of English Academic Induction for New Students

Welcome to the School of English. We hope this is the beginning of an exciting three or four years.

The first few weeks at university should be stimulating and plenty of fun, but there can be lots of information to absorb and things can be overwhelming at times, so we have prepared these induction pages as a guide. Please take time to read them carefully and think about what lies ahead, and refer back here regularly as you find your feet. You will find advice that applies to all students in the school who are beginning their studies with us, and we have included specific advice for the different degree courses, so look below for English Language and Literature, English Literature, and Drama sections as well as the main sections.
