Biography
I received an MA in English and Linguistics from the University of Marburg in 1998 and a Dr. phil in 2004 (also Marburg). I previously taught linguistics in the English departments at the University of Marburg (until 2005) and the University of Siegen (2005). I taught German linguistics as a visiting professor at the University of Trento in 2004. From 2005 until 2007 I was a postdoc in the Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (CASTL) at the University of Tromsø.Role
Lecturer in Linguistics and English LanguageResearch
My main research interests are phonology and phonological theory, especially Optimality Theory and the role of constraints and (under-)representations in phonology. I am also interested in language contact phenomena, esp. the phonological side of them, including loanword adaptation, creole formation and second language acquisition. Additionally, I am interested in issues of (sociolinguistic) variation and how they relate to (generative) linguistic theory. My pet language families are Germanic and Bantu, but I am always trying to address theoretical issues from a wider typological angle.Teaching
