You’ve read the Talkin’ ‘bout my generation feature in issue 52 of Falmer and heard some of our '60s and '70s alumni recount fascinating tales of watching the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Who on campus. We’ve delved into the archive and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
From evergreen rock 'n' roll legend Chuck Berry’s appearance in the ‘60s to the influx of britpop bands such as Blur, Pulp and Radiohead in the ‘90s – via some impromptu shows from Amy Winehouse and Bombay Bicycle Club in the 2000s and 2010s – Sussex has played host to some truly era-defining acts down the years.
Here, we compile alumni memories, photos and videos capturing the excitement of watching your musical idols in the cosy, beer-stained surroundings of East Slope, Mandela Hall and Falmer Bar.
This feature is on-going, and it’s not too late to contribute your memories. If you were at any of the gigs mentioned here, or remember a show that we have omitted, please email email@example.com and we’ll add your story, photos or memorabilia to the collection.
Thank you to everyone who has been in touch so far!
