Professor Michael Farthing was appointed as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sussex in September 2007.
The Vice-Chancellor is the University's chief academic and executive officer. He is a member of Council, the University's governing body, and Chair of Senate, the University's academic body.
Professor Farthing has a distinguished background in medicine, both as a physician and as an academic, in a career spanning more than 30 years.
