Key dates

The University of Sussex is open throughout the year, with events and activities taking place over the summer and during vacations.

The normal academic year for Sussex is in three terms: autumn term (starting in October and finishing in December); spring term (starting in January and finishing by Easter); summer term (starting after Easter and finishing in late June or early July).

In 2012, the University is moving to a slightly different structure of the academic year with two twelve-week teaching blocks, with an assessment period between the two, and a final assessment period at the end. This means that the autumn term will start earlier than before - in September - and the break at the end of spring term will not always coincide with Easter.

For detail of the specific term dates for the current and future years:

There are a number of "minimum service" days - usually coinciding with national holidays, such as Christmas, and with UK Bank Holidays - when most campus facilities are closed.  However, our 24 hours IT facilities, residences and 24-hour security continue to operate throughout.
