Information to return

We will ask you to accept the offer by completing and returning the Staff Record / Acceptance Form. You should also complete and return the medical questionnaire to our occupational health providers in the envelope supplied. You may also be asked to complete and return an Incoming Materials and Equipment form in advance of your start date depending on which School you will be working in.

Visa requirements for applicants outside the European Economic Area

Applicants not living in the UK

If you need a visa to work in the UK and you the University has sufficient evidence to support the issue of a Certificate of Sponsorship under the UK Border Agency’s points-based system, we will start the process of applying for a restricted Certificate of Sponsorship or Work Permit. You will be asked to complete a personal details form and send us a copy of your highest degree certificate. We will email you the details as soon as we have Home Office approval. You will then need to make your own application in your home country to obtain entry clearance to the UK before you travel. We advise that you do not make any travel arrangements until you have this clearance.

Applicants already working in the UK

If already have a the right to work in the UK and the University has sufficient evidence to support the issue of a Certificate of Sponsorship under the UK Border Agency’s points-based system, we will start the process of issuing an unrestricted Certificate of Sponsorship or making an application for a Work Permit. You will be asked to complete a personal details form and send us a copy of your highest degree certificate. We will email you the details as soon as we have Home Office approval. You will then need to make your own application to extend your leave to remain in the UK.

Starting work

On your first day of work you will need to take the following information / documents to the Human Resources office in Sussex House:

  • evidence of your right to work in the UK (see visa information below)
  • higher education qualifications (for academic staff)
  • completed pension forms (for SGSS only)
  • P45

A member of the Staff Development Office will be in touch with you in due course to invite you to our Induction Programme.
