Student ID card

Supplying a Photo for your ID card

As part of the University's online registration process you are asked to upload a passport style photograph of yourself.

The uploaded image should meet the criteria below and will be subject to approval by University staff.

You will still be able to complete online registration even if you have not uploaded your ID photo but it may mean you have to wait longer to receive your ID card.

You will have the opportunity to return later to the online registration system OR Sussex Direct to upload an ID photo whilst the system remains open.

Example ID photoThe photo taken must be:

  • a portrait headshot with only you in the photo
  • a recent and a true likeness of you
  • in colour, not black and white
  • clear, in sharp focus, free from 'redeye' and have no shadow in it
  • free of any reflection or glare from glasses

You must:

  • face forward and look straight into the camera with your eyes open and nothing covering your face
  • not wear sunglasses or tinted glasses
  • not wear a hat or cover your head unless for medical or religious reasons

The ID upload facility will be removed shortly before the start of autumn term in order to allow time for cards to be printed. Once your ID card has been printed you will not be able to replace the uploaded image and a re-print with an alternative image will cost £10.
