Assessments and Submissions
During the academic year, all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students are required to undertake assessments to test that they have met the learning outcomes of their course and modules. Assessments can take the form of coursework, formal submissions, examinations and other in-person assessments.
Coursework is normally undertaken during the Autumn and Spring terms . Your department will set the appropriate coursework that is relevant to your module/course.
There are also 'Formal Submissions' that take place during the assessment periods – mid-year assessment period, end of year assessment period and during the suumer vacation. These are normally dissertations/formal essays etc.
Details of assessments that you are required to undertake, submission deadline dates and where you are required to submit are shown on your Assessment Deadlines & Exam Timetable page which can be accessed through the Timetable heading on Sussex Direct.
Your Study Timetable on Sussex Direct will also display what you are required to submit and when the assessment is due.
- Work submitted up to 24 hours late after the submission deadline date has passed will encounter a 5% penalty
- Work submitted up to 7 Days Late after the submission deadline date has passed will encounter a 10% penalty
- Some assessments are limited to 24 hours permissible lateness, these are flagged on Sussex Direct
If you have any queries regarding your assessment and exam timetable, please contact your School Office.
The only assessments for which full timing information is not given are assessments where students are given individual deadlines e.g. presentations and oral examinations. Students should ask their Course Tutors about arrangements for such assessments.
Students who have reasonable adjustments for their assessments will be written to by the Student Progress and Assessment Office with details of their arrangements. For these students, only the generic arrangements are shown on Sussex Direct and so they should follow the deadlines given in the email notificaiton from the Student Progress and Assessment Office.
