Sussex Research Online update - January 2012
We will soon be in a position to begin the migration. It will be a two-stage process, whereby publication records for two pilot schools (Psychology and Global Studies) will be transferred initially. Once this has been confirmed as successful, the remaining records will be transferred a week later. The timetable is as follows:-
|
25th Jan |
Last day for updating publication records via Sussex Direct |
|
26th Jan |
Lock Sussex Direct to prevent further editing, and extract all records |
|
30th Jan |
Psychology and Global Studies records imported to Sussex Research Online |
|
31st Jan - 3rd Feb |
Verify that Psychology & Global Studies data has transferred successfully |
|
6th Feb |
All remaining publication records imported to Sussex Research Online |
|
7th Feb |
Launch Sussex Research Online |
What does this mean for me?
During the transition period your publication records will still be visible on your Web Profile, but you should not attempt to update them via Sussex Direct or Sussex Research Online.
Once Sussex Research Online is fully launched, the most visible difference will be your Web Profile, which will include a number of "tabs", one of which will be for publications. This will use Sussex Research Online as its only data source, and any free text related to publications will no longer be visible, as previously advised. All publications will be presented in a standard format, which has been agreed with the Heads of School.
From 7th February, the process for submitting new publications, or editing existing ones, will change. You will submit them via Sussex Research Online rather than Sussex Direct, and they will be approved by the SRO team in the Library before they are published. The process will be documented and available to all staff.
To support you, Research and Enterprise Co-ordinators (RECs) and School Administrators have been invited to attend a Sussex Research Online Awareness Workshop during January which will incorporate an introduction to uploading publications. Additional sessions will be provided for academic staff if there is demand. A user guide, online help, and FAQs will also be available.
Sussex Research Online will be available from the Research tab on the University's internal and external web pages, and also from your Personal tab on Sussex Direct, as before. You will need to log in to add or edit records, and further guidance will be provided. Please note that the current home page of the site is not the final version. When Sussex Research Online is launched, the home page and the subpages will have different imagery and explanatory text about what it is and how it can be used.
As part of this process, we will ensure that all of your publications (including those added or modified by you on or before 25th January 2012) are transferred to Sussex Research Online and that your selected publications continue to appear in your web profile. The order that co-authors are displayed in should be the same as in Sussex Direct. You will notice that there are fewer publication type and statuses, which will be easier to maintain. Should you spot any errors or find that any of your publications are missing please let us know at sro@sussex.ac.uk
If you have recently joined the University, we should be able to import your publications from your previous institutional repository, or from systems such as PubNet, EndNote or BibText. Please contact us at sro@sussex.ac.uk
We welcome feedback, and encourage you to let us know what you like about Sussex Research Online, and what could be improved. Please send comments to sro@sussex.ac.uk. Comments about the new Web Profile layout should be directed to the Web Team at webteam@sussex.ac.uk
