Notice of By-Election of a Professorial member of Senate to Academic Promotions, Advancements and Titles Committee
This notice is to announce the by-election of a Professorial member of Senate from the Arts Schools to the Academic Promotions, Advancements and Titles Committee, to serve with immediate effect until 31 July 2016. This by-election is caused by the early end of the tenure of Prof Sue Thornham and accordingly the vacancy is for the remaining period of her term of office.
The composition of the Academic Promotions, Advancements and Titles Committee is:
Vice-Chancellor (Chair); Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Pro-Vice-Chancellors; One Head of School from each Cluster appointed by the Chair, each serving for three years; One Professorial member of Senate from each cluster elected by the academic members of Senate, each serving for three years, in which time an individual will remain on the Committee irrespective of whether he or she continues as a member of Senate.
Schools in the Arts Cluster are as follows:
School of English, School History, Art History and Philosophy, School of Media, Film and Music.
All academic members of Senate as of today’s date, whether elected or ex-officio, are invited to submit nominations although only Professorial members are eligible to be nominated. Non-academic staff members of Senate, Observers and those in attendance at meetings of Senate are not eligible to take part in this election.
The first step is the nomination of candidates. Nominations are being sought to fill the vacancy. Please use the Nomination Form.
Nominators should check that their nominee(s) is/are willing and eligible to serve. Self-nomination is permissible providing that you meet the eligibility criteria set out above.
Completed forms must be returned to Alice Robertson (Governance Officer, Sussex House Room 325 or by email to A.Robertson@sussex.ac.uk) by 12 noon on 24 October 2014. The next meeting of Academic Promotions, Advancements and Titles Committee is on 3 November 2014.
Each Nomination Form received will be acknowledged. Ballot papers will be issued if necessary after the closing date for nominations together with details of the voting procedure. The result of the election will be announced on the above page of the Office of Governance and Secretariat website.
