School of Law, Politics and Sociology

The Lyle Prize

The Lyle Prize awards two First Generation Scholars on courses in the School of Law, Politics and Sociology a £500 educational travel award. The award provides an opportunity for the selected students to develop an understanding of Brussels as the heart of the European Union; its relevance to business, politics and society; and its rich culture which has been shaped by a host of foreign cultural influences, making it one of the most international cities in the world.

Winners experience a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into how Brussels works through arranged visits with Members of European Parliament (MEPs) to the European Parliament and key institutions within the European Commission. They also have free time to enjoy the city’s historic sites, its many museums and galleries and the relaxed café and bar scene.

The competition is made possible by the generous support of Dominic Lyle, Director General of the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA), and Vyvyan Lyle, alumna of Sussex Law School. Mr and Mrs Lyle sponsor the prize to encourage more Sussex students to consider working in Brussels or for the European Community.
