Books generally contain well-established information. They are a good starting point, especially when you are new to a topic.

Your course reading list is likely to have both essential and recommended books listed. When you need to research further, you will need to use the Library catalogue to search for books.

The Library catalogue is displayed below. Experiment with using the Libary catalogue by searching for the book "One flew over the cuckoo's nest". Usually, you don't need to type in the full title of a book; a few keywords should be enough.

Type one flew over into the search box below then click the Search button. Scroll through the page of results. You will see that some results have the book symbol and some have the film symbol, indicating that the item is a video. Click on the title of one of the results and scroll down the page to check availability.

You can use the Library catalogue to search for a particular author. Experiment using the Library catalogue search box below. Type Arendt, H into the search box and click Search.

How many results are retrieved?

Scroll through the list of results. You will see that the results include books about the author as well as books by the author. Look through the list and see if you can work out which books are by Arendt and which are about Arendt.
