School of Global Studies

HEIF (Higher Education Innovation Funds)

The School has funds via the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) that are dedicated to developing Knowledge Exchange (KE) with non-academic partners, including cultural and social organisations*, business & enterprise, and the public sector. We are particularly keen to support projects which will contribute to the School's developing KEF (Knowledge Exchange Framework) profile. Research England has set some key areas of Knowledge Exchange which HEIF funding can be invested in including:

1. Research Partnerships (e.g. a collaborative research project with an external organisation contributing funding, this can include in-kind funding)
2. Working with Business
3. Working with the Public/Third Sector
4. Skills, Enterprise, Entrepreneurship
5. Local Growth/Regeneration
6. IP and Commercialisation

*The National Centre for Academic & Cultural Exchange (NCACE), funded by Research England, is a useful resource in exploring how arts and humanities research can lead to effective Knowledge Exchange partnerships (see the recent NCACE Report

You can contact the designated Global Studies Director for Knowledge Exchange Alan Lester and the Assistant Research Manager Carol Anderson to discuss ideas you have, or if you are not sure whether your idea fits the HEIF/KE brief.
