Our academic skills programme will help you to develop more effective approaches to studying. You can access a range of online skills resources via Skills Hub and attend our academic skills workshops.

Skills Hub

You can use a wide range of online resources and workshops/tutorials on Skills Hub to help you study better. It covers digital skills, critical thinking and reading, writing and assessment, referencing and academic integrity, presenting and participating in class, numeracy and statistics, revision and exams.

Skills workshops are available to all undergraduate and Masters students. If you are a student with English as an additional language, please sign up for the workshops and tutorials offered by English Language for Academic Study (ELAS).

  • English Language for Academic Study (ELAS) – this service helps students whose first language is not English improve their academic English and their understanding of British academic culture through workshops and 1-2-1 tutorials
  • IT Services training – develop your computing skills on a range of software
  • Library Workshops and Training - all undergraduate and Masters students can attend workshops and training on using library resources and developing research skills
  • Royal Literary Fund 1-2-1 Writing Support – professional writers offer individual tutorials for any member of the university who wishes to improve their writing skills (please note that ELAS offers specialist 1-2-1 tutorials for students whose first language is not English)
  • Student Mentors - contact your school office to connect with trained student mentors in your schools
