This problem sometimes happens in the Windows 7 standard staff desktop.
The symptom is that the following error message is shown when you click on the Outlook shortcut icon in your taskbar:
If this happens, click the Yes button. You will notice the Outlook icon disappears from your taskbar:
Now, start Outlook either by double-clicking the desktop icon on your desktop (if present),
or
or from your main menu by clicking the Start button, then choose All Programs, then Microsoft Office then Microsoft Outlook.
When Outlook has started, you'll notice its icon appear in the taskbar: or
Now right-click on the Outlook icon in the taskbar, and click on Pin this program to taskbar in the pop-up menu:
Once this has been done, you can drag-and-drop the icon to another position in the taskbar if desired.
Note however that although the above solution should take immediate effect, the problem may recur at a later time. You may find it easier just to start Outlook from the desktop icon.
