Can I use my own router in my room on campus?

Theoretically, it is possible to connect standalone routers to the University network as long as the authentication methods for the wired access connection are supported on your device and the MAC address of the router is registered. You will need some knowledge of how networks operate as IT Services does not provide support the use of routers in University managed accommodation.

However in practice it can be difficult to set up routers in such a way that does not affect the connections of your flatmates and neighbours. Most devices are designed to work in the home where networks are relatively simple. Unfortunately they do not work effectively with larger, authenticated networks such as ResNet.
