Engineering and Informatics Template
Deciding your module status
There are three potential routes for the application of your School template to your module, read the definitions below and decide which status applies to your module, then follow the appropriate guidance, if you are unsure which status applies to your module then please contact TEL at TEL@sussex.ac.uk
New module
A new module is a Canvas module that has not previously been run and had no prior Canvas module site.
1. Apply the School template:
- PDF guidance - Applying your School module template
2. Check that the Template home page has been set as the main page:
- PDF guidance - Setting the home page
3. Once the template has been applied you'll need to edit the template to fill in details relevant to your module as well as populating the Unit's area with your module content.
4. Continue to steps 2-5 on the Canvas module setup checklist
Existing module without template
A previously run module that did not have a school approved template applied to it in past years
1. Apply the School template:
- PDF guidance - Applying your School module template
2. Check that the Template home page has been set as the main page:
- PDF guidance - Setting the home page
3. Once the template has been applied you'll need to edit the template to fill in details relevant to your module as well as populating the Unit's area with your module content.
4. You'll then want to import across any content you wish to reuse from your past years site and ensure it fits within the template structure, please see the below for guidance around this:

4. Continue to steps 2-5 on the Canvas module setup checklist
Existing module with last year's template
A previously run module which had a school approved template applied to it. (If you have a module with an older template please contact TEL@sussex.ac.uk for advice. You will probably need to follow the steps for Existing module without template.)
1. If your 21/22 module site had the Engineering and Informatics School template applied then you can copy over both the template content from your past years site as well as any content you wish to reuse or bring over and adapt for the new 22/23 module site:
