Hello,
This week, I’m pleased to share that the University has won the Bees' Needs Champion Award for the fifth year running! Presented by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), this award recognises our dedication to supporting pollinating insects on campus.
Sussex has also been presented with a Green Flag Award for 2023, marking seven years in a row that the University has won the award. Managed by the Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) Grounds team, working with the University’s Sustainability team and other groups, our Falmer campus has been recognised for its excellent green spaces, staying in balance with the surrounding South Downs ecosystem.
As we head into August, I’m sharing information for those of you due to take resits too. Please check below for the latest guidance.
Read on for your regular update, including:
- Information for students taking resits (7-19 August)

Information for students taking resits (7-19 August)
The resit assessment period for all modules is Monday 7 August to Saturday 19 August 2023. You can visit the Student Hub for information on resitting an assessment and related links. Any questions should be directed to your School office in the first instance.
Alongside the main Library webpages, our Skills Hub has lots of resources to help you with your studies, including support around referencing and revision. You might also like to revisit our Digital Learning Guide to Sussex Direct and Canvas, which was created by students.
If you’re on campus and looking for a place to study, check the Student Hub for options. If you need extra support or advice around this time, you can access University support services via the Student Centre.
In the unlikely event that you experience any sudden, temporary and unforeseen circumstance that directly impacts your academic performance, please review our Exceptional Circumstances webpages. There are important deadlines that must be observed should you need to submit an application for consideration.
Marking and assessment boycott information
We are continuing to update the industrial action page on the Student Hub when there is new information. Please check this page to stay up to date and see answers to frequently-asked questions about the impact of the marking and assessment boycott. You can also find information there on how to submit a complaint if you have been impacted by the industrial action.
As mentioned above, if you have concerns and need extra guidance or support, the University has services available that provide advice on a range of subjects. You can access these services via the Student Centre.
Spirit of Sussex Award – postgraduate finalists, it’s time to log your points
The deadline for postgraduate finalist students to log points for the Spirit of Sussex Award is 1 August. The Spirit of Sussex Award recognises your co-curricular and voluntary achievements.
If you’re taking part in activities such as a part-time job, a student society or volunteering, you can gain points towards a bronze, silver or gold Spirit of Sussex Award that you will receive at your graduation.
Logging an activity can take as little as 5 minutes – log your points now.
