Green Impact Team

Green Impact is a NUS scheme that encourages university departments to tackle sustainability issues across their buildings and staff behaviour. Several Schools at Sussex have achieved bronze, silver, and gold awards for their Green Impact Team’s work on making changes to foster environmental best practice.

We established the Psychology Green Impact Team in Autumn 2019, and some of the changes we have made so far include:

  • A switch to 100% plant-based catering at all internal School events (see the School Sustainable Catering Policy)
  • A weekly ‘green tip’ in the internal School email bulletin for staff and PhD students
  • A selection of green tips on the School blog
  • Installed remote presenting and video conferencing facilities to enable staff to choose digital collaboration over air travel, in order to avoid the large carbon emissions associated with aviation

Our sustainability work was recognised with a Gold in the 2020 Sussex Green Impact awards, and the special commendation of ‘Best Newcomer’, acknowledging how much we have done in just a short time.
