All students, staff and researchers at Sussex are entitled to an email address ending @sussex.ac.uk. Email sent to these addresses is stored centrally on the University's email system and can be accessed from an IT Services computer in an office or computer room, or from anywhere using webmail or your preferred email program.
All staff and research postgraduates are also entitled to a calendar stored centrally on the University's system which can be accessed from an IT Services computer in an office or computer room, or from anywhere using OWA or your preferred calendaring program.
All Sussex staff and research postgraduate email accounts are stored on the Exchange Server, where they are allocated a nominal 1.2GB storage space which can be increased for individuals if necessary for their work.
The Sussex staff and research postgraduate email system allows emails of up to 50MB in size to be sent or received.

Email and/or calendaring programs, often referred to as a email or calendaring clients is an application that allows you to read, send and manage email and/or calendar information. The mail clients supported by the IT Services are:
Outlook is the fully-featured email and calendaring client available as part of Microsoft Office on Windows (Outlook 2007) and which is commonly used by staff who use Windows PCs. A version is also available for Mac OS X (Outlook 2011).
Applemail is the fully-featured email client available as part of Mac OS X and which is commonly used by staff who use Macs.
iCal is the fully-featured calendaring client available as part of Mac OS X and which is commonly used by staff who use Macs.
Outlook Web App (OWA) gives staff and research postgraduates web-based access to their email and calendaring and is also an easy way to collect or send mail while you are off-campus since you don't need to set up any mail programs to use it.
Webmail gives students web-based access to their email and works in a similar way to services such as Hotmail or Googlemail.
Information about setting up other email clients (for example, Thunderbird and Mulberry) for use with the Sussex mail system can be found in the how to section. Please note however that extended support for these other email clients is limited.
All external email comes to Sussex via JANET and most is stored on the IT Services mail server. Each individual has an INBOX where their mail is stored.
