Change your password
Use this link to change your password (login first with your existing password).

The link takes you to Sussex Direct where you can now manage your IT account. When you change the password, it will be changed for Sussex Direct itself but also for most other services at Sussex including e-mail, wi-fi (eduroam) and logins to student computers.

New users
If you are trying to change your password on the same day that your IT account was created, you may not yet be able to login to Sussex Direct. If so, please use the My ITS accounts page to change your password (first log in with the username and password you have been given).

Change your autoreply message or mail forwarding
(staff and PhD students)

Change your autoreply email message or forward your email to a different mail account using the functionality built into Outlook Web App (OWA). Click here for instructions on setting up forwarding in OWA.

NB: if you previously set your autoreply using the old interface you will need to login to MyAccounts one last time to unset it.

Getting your IT username and password for the first time

You must be registered with IT Services in order to use the general computing facilities on campus, including completing Online Registration, and using Sussex Direct.

When you register with the university you will be issued with a username, password and email address.

All students and staff of the University are eligible to apply for an account:

  • New students arriving in September/October are pre-registered with accounts which they are given when they complete Online Registration or collect at Student Registration in Bramber House.
  • Staff, and students that arrive at other times of the year, should come to IT Service Desk in Shawcross, with their student or staff card. Once your eligibility has been confirmed then your account will normally be created and activated within one working day.

You are also strongly advised to attend a practical induction session about using the computing facilities at Sussex, including how to login and use the printing facilities. For new students this will normally be part of your induction programme in Freshers' Week.

Getting started

The first thing you must do is identify yourself by typing in your username and password then clicking on the Submit button.

Changing your password

When you have successfully logged in, you will see the panel that allows you to change your password. You have to type the password in twice (to verify your new password) and click on Submit.

Setting your email options

You will have received an email address when you register with IT Services. The Set Mail Options panel allows you to manage this facility. For example you can automatically forward your messages to another mail account.

Finishing

When you have finished making changes, you must click on the Logout button. Failure to do so potentially means that others can alter the settings, for example changing your password so that you will no longer be able to login.

Choosing a password

  • 8 characters long
  • must start with a letter
  • case-sensitive
  • must contain at least one character that is not a letter, such as a digit

See the full list of permitted non-alphabetic characters.

Role-based accounts

Change the password on a role-based account (or set up an automatic email reply)

New staff

Use this form to request an IT account for a new member of staff starting at the University:

Request user account for a new member of staff (login needed)

This form should be completed by the school administrator or the new member of staff's manager. We would appreciate as much notice as possible in order to have access to all services ready for the start date(especially if this is at the beginning of the Autumn term).
