Getting help from IT Services

For students, staff and researchers at the University, we give help by email, phone or in person at our IT Service Desk in Shawcross.

Our helpdesk advisors are available every working day to help with more complex problems. We also have specialist teams to deal with the computers that are provided and maintained by the University.

Opening times

The opening hours for the IT Service Desk in Shawcross are:

09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday

What we can help with

We provide support for the use of computers and software supplied by the University.

We also try to help with general issues affecting teaching, learning and administration. This often includes trouble-shooting problems with personally-owned computers.

Our services are tightly budgeted and therefore we are unable to support activities such as online gaming. The physical maintenance or repair of computers and laptops is also outside our remit, although we can recommend local repair services for devices that are not covered by a warranty.

  • connecting to wi-fi (eduroam) or wired internet connections
  • removing viruses or malicious programs
  • installing software available for your own computer

Audiovisual support for teaching rooms

We operate a special, rapid-response service for audiovisual problems in teaching rooms. See details of our audiovisual services for more information.
