How and when to register with the police

Sussex Police come on to campus to register students but you will need to make an appointment. Find out when and how to do this, as well as which documents you will need to bring with you.

When should I contact the police?

You must contact them to make an appointment within 7 days of your arrival in the UK or receiving your returned BRP/visa from UKVI (if you applied to stay for longer from within the UK) 

How do I make an appointment?

1. You must book your appointment online. If you cannot open the link please try a different browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. DO NOT make more than one appointment.

2. You will then receive a confirmation, telling you when and where your appointment will be.


You must attend your appointment as it is not optional and you must arrive on time.

Which documents do I need?  

  • Your passport
  • BRP (if you have one) and accompanying letter,
  • £34 fee in cash,
  • 2 new passport sized photographs
  • Proof that you are a student at the University of Sussex - either your offer letter or your Confirmation of acceptance for studies – CAS.
  • Proof of your address, such as a bank statement or accommodation agreement
  • Your completed registration form


Make sure you bring these documents to your appointment otherwise the police won't be able to register you
