School of Global Studies

Global Citizens bursaries

The School of Global Studies is proud to provide our ‘Global Citizens Bursaries’. Together, these bursaries will enable even more of our students to take advantage of the opportunities on offer - to learn, engage and contribute as Global Citizens beyond the formal classroom.

Global Studies Scholarships for Black and Minority Ethnic Students

There are two scholarships for applicants to the School of Global Studies. In support of our commitment to widening participation in higher education at all levels, we are concerned to address the current under-representation at the University of Sussex of Masters students from UK Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.

Nicola Anderson Bursary

Set up in memory of Nicola Anderson, a Sussex student in the 1970s, this bursary is open to all second year Global Studies students, to fund travel during the summer vacation.

Andrew Francis Pickup Global Citizens Award

This generous award was endowed in memory of Andrew Pickup, a popular and highly regarded doctoral researcher in the Global Studies, and will be available to postgraduate taught students undertaking a Dissertation with Placement.

Turing Scheme Award

This award provides funding for those undertaking education/training in the UK to go on study or work placements worldwide. The award is open to all taught postgraduate students. There will be 4 awards available: two Widening Participation awards (selected students who meet one of the WP criteria – receive basic living cost grant plus a travel grant), two Non Widening participation awards (receive cost of living grant – not travel nor cost of living uplift grants). If you meet the widening participation criteria, you will be required to provide some evidence.

You need to have made significant progress on finding a placement at the time of making the Turing application.
