Staff Bulletin newsletter

The Staff Bulletin is the internal newsletter of the University of Sussex, produced by the Internal Communications team.

The weekly Staff Bulletin is sent by email to all University staff and postgraduate researchers.

This is only one of the channels for internal communications among staff. Potential contributors should also consider the use of other channels of communication, such as email, web pages, social media, etc.

Aims

The aim of the Staff Bulletin is to ensure that University staff and postgraduate researchers are well informed about campus news, events and issues, by providing timely and accurate articles and stories on issues affecting the University community, as well as current news and information about the people who make up the University community.

Readership

The Staff Bulletin is published for University of Sussex staff and postgraduate researchers, and is also sent to members of Council. Other interested parties - e.g. former and retired staff - can be included on the mailing list by emailing internalcomms@sussex.ac.uk.

It is not an academic or specialist publication and the aim is to ensure that all material is easy to understand and appeals to a general readership.

Content/Type of material

  • News on topical University developments and issues
  • News about faculty research findings and publications
  • Reports on special and/or high-profile University events
  • Stories about Sussex staff and students and their accomplishments/successes.

Editing and publishing process

Most of the news items in the Staff Bulletin are published online via the Broadcast news and events system. If we have approved your news story for publication on the staff news page, we will automatically consider it for publication in the Staff Bulletin.

Events

Each issue of the Staff Bulletin links through to our 'top picks', i.e. key events of general interest coming up on campus and (where relevant) in Brighton that are listed on the University's online events diary. Instructions on the process involved in posting your events online are available on these web pages.

Publication schedule

The Staff Bulletin is emailed - to all staff, postgraduate researchers, members of Council and others who ask to receive it - once a week on Friday mornings.

Publication is throughout the year, including vacations, although there are short breaks over the Christmas and Easter periods.

Distribution

The current and archived issues are available online, where they can be searched by keyword.
