Technical commitment

The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Technicians Make It Happen campaign.

The University of Sussex has a signed up to the Technician Commitment. The themes of the Technician Commitment are Visibility, Recognition, Career Development, Sustainability and Evaluating Impact, and apply to technicians working in higher education and research, across all disciplines.

To meet our commitment to technicians, a Steering group chaired by Prof. Sarah Guthrie has been setup to create and ensure we meet an action plan. The Steering Group and associated working groups are made up of a mix of technical service, academic and professional service members of staff

The first meeting of the Steering group was on the 7th of March 2022, where we edited and approved our Technician Commitment Action Plan and Self Assessment, setting out how we will work towards the themes of the scheme. These documents can be viewed here:
