Build a Robot with HackSussex
(Optional)
Join HackSussex for a fun and hands-on robot building challenge! Using simple materials and electric motors, you'll team up to design and build your own vibration-powered mini robot. At the end of the session, put your creation to the test in a friendly race. Whether you're a seasoned maker or a complete beginner, it's a great opportunity to get creative, learn something new, and meet other students. No experience needed!

R/Place Software Workshop with PALs
(Optional)
Have you heard of r/place? Come to our workshop and learn to write code that interacts with a shared pixel canvas. In this workshop we will write code to make a shared art piece using Python.

Spaghetti Bridge Challenge with ENgineering and Design Mentors
(Optional)
Join the EngDes Mentors for our Spaghetti Bridge Challenge - design, build and test your structure using spaghetti and marshmallows to hold as many sweet treats as possible! Put your creativity and problem solving to the test, win sweet prizes, and meet the mentoring team!

Lego Mindstorm with PALs
(Optional)
Come along and build mechanical Lego models. Whether this be robots, or any sort of Lego gadget - there is plenty of Lego Mindstorms to go around to build what you want!

After the talks, there will be:
- Chance to meet Sussex staff and your fellow students
- Talk to the Spirit of Sussex Team
- Enjoy our photobooth and freshly baked cookies

At the end of the session, put your creation to the test in a friendly race. Have you heard of r/place? Come to our workshop and learn to write code that interacts with a shared pixel canvas. In this workshop we will write code to make a shared art piece using Python.

Spaghetti Bridge Challenge with ENgineering and Design Mentors

Join the EngDes Mentors for our Spaghetti Bridge Challenge - design, build and test your structure using spaghetti and marshmallows to hold as many sweet treats as possible! Put your creativity and problem solving to the test, win sweet prizes, and meet the mentoring team!

Lego Mindstorm with PALs

Come along and build mechanical Lego models. Whether this be robots, or any sort of Lego gadget - there is plenty of Lego Mindstorms to go around to build what you want!

The University of Sussex's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sasha Roseneil will host a special event to welcome all new students, with a presentation from a FoSEM alumnus and closing remarks from our Faculty Dean Professpr. Luc Moreau.
After the talks, there will be:
- Chance to meet Sussex staff and your fellow students
- Talk to the Spirit of Sussex Team
- Enjoy our photobooth and freshly baked cookies
Places are limited to 500 students, so please book your spot as soon as possible!
