Equality, diversity and inclusion
The School of Engineering and Informatics aims to be inclusive and embed the principles of Inclusive Sussex in our policies and culture. We work to ensure that all members of our community have equal access to opportunities, experiences and support, enabling everyone to reach their full potential.

Our vision
Our vision is to create a pleasant place to work and study for everyone, where every student and member of staff have equal access to opportunities, experience the School as one that enables them to fully meet their potential and supports them to make a full contribution. We work to reduce inequalities and celebrate diversity allowing all of us to thrive, ensuring that our students and staff feel welcomed, accepted and heard.

How we will fulfil our commitment

- We aspire to create a culture of dignity and respect on an everyday basis. All members of our community – staff, students and visitors – should follow our School charter and guiding principles.
- We monitor admissions policies, teaching delivery, School regulations and employment practices to ensure that they take appropriate account of EDI issues.
- We enable classroom and extracurricular discussions of EDI issues.
- We promote an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect among all members of the School community.
To support these aims, the University of School of Engineering and Informatics has created an Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Athena SWAN (AS) working group made up of staff and students from across our School to inform and monitor our progress towards achieving our EDI goals.
