Press and Communications Office

People and contacts

The Office consists of two teams: the press office, and the internal communications team.

Press office

The team consists of Jacqui Bealing (Senior Press Officer) and Maggie Clune (Press Officer).

We can advise you on how to maximise your media exposure: how to present your story in a press release or interview, or how to react to external enquiries. See our guide to working with the media, or ask us for a print copy. Contact us at press@sussex.ac.uk to find out more.

Have you written or been quoted in an article? Have you been interviewed on radio or TV?

We monitor the University's profile in the media and maintain a record of press cuttings about Sussex to produce Sussex in the News, a round up of some of the best publicity. Please help by telling us about your latest media appearance. Email press@sussex.ac.uk.

Internal communications

The team consists of Alison Field (Senior Communications Officer), James Hakner (Communications Officer) and Melissa Ittoo (Graduate Intern)

It's our job to make sure people know what is happening at Sussex and why, and feel involved in the life of the University.

We do this by:

  • Promoting good practice in internal communications throughout the University
  • Working with units across campus on the communication of issues and change
  • Producing the internal newsletter, Bulletin (email, printed and website versions)
  • Liaising with student journalists on the weekly student newspaper, the badger
  • Managing content of the University intranet, particularly the central pages for students and for staff
  • Managing other channels of internal communications, e.g. mass emails, screensavers, open meetings, etc.
  • Developing and implementing policy on internal communications.
