Questions and answers

I am both a member of staff and a student. Is my email now on Exchange?

As you are a member of staff or a research student, your email and calendaring should be hosted on the Exchange system.  You can find out what system you're on by following the instructions in FAQ 2533. If you find that you are still being connected to a student email facility rather than staff please let us know, then we can arrange to migrate your account to Exchange.

You will still have a single account for your email, with the same unchanged Sussex email address, but on Exchange you would now access it with either the web-based Outlook Web App (OWA), or the Outlook desktop application.  You can still use another email application such as Thunderbird or Apple Mail if you prefer, but these applications will need reconfiguring to access the Exchange server and will not support all the other facilities that Exchange provides.  See our guide to using different email programs with Exchange.

See the ITS website for separate Guides to Outlook and Outlook Web App.

Please note that the Sussex email accounts (used only by undergraduate and taught postgraduate students) cannot be used with Exchange.  Outlook Web App (OWA) is used as the webmail link to Exchange.
