E-learning

Study Direct is the University's learning management system/VLE

Study Direct sites can be created for teaching groups, courses, programmes or for any groups of participants.

Here are some of the reasons for using Study Direct:

  • it enables a single point of presence for the course where resources such as slides, links to course readings, podcasts, links to other sites, video can be made available
  • it makes it easy to alert students to relevant news and important events
  • it supports seminar-style discussion forums and gives students a place to bring their questions where tutors' and peers' answers are available to all their class-mates
  • it provides a space for group working
  • it offers assessment tools that allow you and students to gauge understanding of topics and give automated feedback

Developing a Study Direct site can be an opportunity to refocus the your face-to-face teaching activities by encouraging students to make more effective use of their time outside of class.

IT Services and TLDU can provide support on designing and building your Study Direct site. A good place to start is the Help section within Study Direct itself.
