Turnitin and assessment toolsAt the beginning of November 2010, the University gave all students on taught programmes at Sussex access to Turnitin. Turnitin is an online ‘text matching’ tool that compares a student’s work to a huge database of other files and shows where there are strong similarities. It is often referred to as plagiarism detection software.
Students access submit their work to Turnitin via a Study Direct site. By the end of Autumn Term 2010, 1,754 students had submitted over 3,000 files to Turnitin. This represents 15% of students enrolled on the site. The five guides to using Turnitin have received on average 597 views each (range 304 to 831).
You can find out more about the development of Turnitin at Sussex on the TLDU Turnitin page.
