The Path to Tomorrow's Treatments: Where does it begin? Exploring the Sussex Drug Discovery Centre.
Thursday 19 June 14:00 until 16:00
University of Sussex Campus : Bridge Café
Part of the series: Summer of Research
Join us for an engaging, hands-on journey through the drug discovery process.
Our multi-disciplinary team of Medicinal Chemists and Biologists will highlight the stages involved in our research and subsequent testing phases, from identifying targets and screening, to visualizing how drug molecules interact at an atomic level and building molecules through design and synthesis.
Explore the Interactive Station Rotations with integrated posters, showcasing how we find starting points, understand interactions and build molecules. These crucial steps pave the way for essential testing phases – the first steps towards tomorrow’s treatments.
Itinerary for the session:
- A brief welcome and introduction by Professor Erika Mancini
- Interactive Stations and Poster Rotations
Station 1: Finding the Starting Point - Targets & Screening
Station 2: Seeing is Believing - Structural Biology
Station 3: Chemistry Lab Magic - Building the Molecules
- Concluding Remarks and Next Steps by Professor John Spencer
