EPSRC - Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Scholarships

Welcome to the EPSRC scholarships programme at Sussex

The Sussex Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) programme funds scholarships in computing, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, materials and quantum physics and energy innovation.

We are pleased to announce a call for EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowships.  The EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowship  is a prestigious scheme aimed at supporting the best doctoral researchers whose PhD studies were funded in part or entirely by the EPSRC.  In this round, Sussex is offering 3  x 6-month Fellowships to enable outstanding researchers to take their first steps towards an independent research career in Science and Engineering. 

The deadline for Fellowship applications is midday on September 3rd 2025 and posts will run 1st October 2025 to 31st March 2026. For further details see our Call Guidance and Application form.

Applications for PhD scholarships for 2025-26 are now closed. Our EPSRC Brochure gives an idea of the range of projects generally on offer. 

As an EPSRC postgraduate researcher, you will receive a fee waiver, living allowance and a budget for research training costs for at least 3.5 years. Your programme will include:

  • Subject specific training with your reserarch group or laboratory
  • Training in Responsible Research and Innovation - how can we integrate ethical and societal considerations into our research processes?
  • An entrepreneurship summer school, beginning 2025-6
  • An optional extension for a 3-month placement outside academia (at a company, charity or government organisation)

 Additionally, the Sussex PGR Scholarships team (pgr-scholarships@sussex.ac.uk) can help you with funding queries such as:

  • Fee waiver and payment of stipend/maintenance allowances
  • Changes to your scholarship (part-time registation, parental or sick leave, taking a break from your PhD, starting a placement)
  • Claiming Disabled Student Allowance (DSA)
  • Your budget for research training costs and fieldwork
