The future of the WTO: In conversation with James Bacchus
Tuesday 10 June 11:00 until 12:00

Speaker: James Bacchus
The recent spate of tariffs applied and threatened by the United States government deeply disregards these principles, leading some to conclude that the World Trade Organization (WTO), or even globalization itself, is dead.
James Bacchus was a founding judge and twice the Chairman – the chief judge – of the highest court of world trade, the WTO’s Appellate Body. He is a former Member of the Congress of the United States, from Florida, and also a former international trade negotiator for the United States.
In this event, he will provide his perspectives, as one of the original architects and supporters of the WTO, on the challenges that the Trump Administration has posed for the world trading system, and the way forward for global trade cooperation.
