Important information: Changes to the structure of the academic year
- From autumn 2012 the academic year will be based on two 12-week teaching blocks. Each of these will carry 60 credits (120 for the year)
-
Because the first teaching block will be 12 weeks instead of the current 10, the academic year will start a couple of weeks earlier than it does at the moment, i.e. in mid September
-
There will be a total of 24 weeks teaching weeks a year (2 x 12 weeks)
- Between the two teaching blocks there will be a mid-year assessment period, after the Christmas student vacation and leading into the second teaching block
- There will be a second assessment period after the Easter vacation
-
Courses taught entirely in the first teaching block will normally be assessed by the end of the first assessment period
-
A simplified credit structure based on multiples of 15 credits will be adopted for all courses
