Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The LPS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is composed of professional services staff, and of faculty including  Doctoral Tutors drawn from each of the three departments.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy for LPS is built on the University of Sussex values of ‘Kindness, Integrity, Inclusion, Collaboration and Courage’ and on UK Human Rights and Equality legislation.

It recognises the need for strong school level support to assist cultural change and to support individuals who raise issues in relation to equality and diversity within the school.

LPS Equalities Statement

We recognise that everybody who works and studies at LPS comes with different experiences and identities that intersect. We acknowledge that structures and processes exist that attribute power and privilege to certain individuals and groups which result in social injustice*. We also recognise that all humans experience vulnerability and privilege at different times and in varying ways.

We want LPS to be a place in which everyone feels confident, included, welcomed, and valued, and where everyone has a voice, is listened to, and is empowered. We are all responsible for making this happen and we are committed to it.

We intend this statement to be used to challenge the structures and processes that (re)produce social injustice within Higher Education.

*Examples of this include racism, classism, poverty, transphobia, heteronormativity, patriarchy, ageism, ableism, structural violence. We are aware this list is not exhaustive.
