If you’re passing through campus, or taking a stroll at lunchtime, do take 10 minutes to check out one of the three exhibitions taking place during the Summer of Research.
Paraecologists for the Rights of Nature at the Student Centre
The exhibition celebrates the resilience and dedication of paraecologists and community members, in their collaboration with Ecoforensic across Ecuador. By equipping paraecologists ("paramedics" of the biodiversity and climate crises) with the tools to collect crucial ecological information, Ecoforensic works to safeguard ecosystems and build resilience in protected areas, community reserves and indigenous territories.
Ecoforensic is a non-profit Community Interest Company founded by University of Sussex Life Sciences academic Mika Peck, and committed to defending the Rights of Nature in the face of increasing resource exploitation risks.
The film, photography, art and stories of the paraecologists illuminate powerful narratives that encompass resistance, protection, biodiversity, livelihoods and community.
The beautiful life-size black-and-white prints are by the independent photojournalist, Thomas Byczkowski, taken during a field trip with Ecoforensic in August 2024.

Pride at Sussex at the Library’s Corner Gallery, 17 June-31 July
A photography and written word exhibition spotlighting LGBTQ+ staff at the University of Sussex. The images might be of the person or a meaningful place on campus that represents them, together with their view or experiences of being LGBTQ+ at Sussex.
“Being queer at Sussex means walking around campus and seeing our beautiful students and staff of so many different identities. It’s important to create spaces where all queer members of our university can feel safe and comfortable, and I believe that being part of the staff network helps me contribute to that.”
- Hermione La Chapelle, Senior Student Engagement Officer and Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network (she/they, bisexual)
The Pride at Sussex project has been led by James Ward-Lee, former Chair of the Trans and Non-Binary staff network, with members of the LGBTQ Steering Group.
