Job Evaluation

All job evaluations are to be processed on a real-time, continual basis and initiated at either the time of job creation for new positions, or at the time new duties and responsibilities are required of an existing position.  

  • Note: Job evaluation requests/options will no longer be a part of the Discretionary Pay Review process.

Procedure

  • The line manager will meet with the HR Adviser for the area to discuss the new position request or the changes to an existing position’s duties and responsibilities.

  • Creation of new positions:
    • Ensure the job description and person specification are drafted using the current template and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
    • Update the organisation chart for the area and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
    • Complete the New Role Job Evaluation Form and submit electronically

  • Requests for job evaluation of existing positions:
    • Ensure the job description and person specification are updated using the template (please copy into new template, if not in this format) and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
    • Update the organisation chart for the area and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
    • Complete the Request for Job Evaluation of an Existing Position Form and submit electronically

  • For all job evaluations in connection with restructure projects:
    • Meet with your HR Adviser regarding the restructure plan
    • All JE processes in connection with the restructure should be assessed at a specific restructure JE panel and implemented only after consultation process is complete.
    • For each affected position:
      • Ensure job description and person specification are complete and updated using the template (please copy into new template, if not in this format) and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
      • Update the organisation chart for the area and submit to je@sussex.ac.uk
      • Complete either the New Role Job Evaluation Form or the Request for Job Evaluation of an Existing Position Form and submit electronically
