Enforcement of parking charges
A minority of drivers choose to ignore the University traffic and parking regulations for motor vehicles.
Some drivers park on double-yellow lines or in hatched areas, while others try to avoid payment.
In fairness to the majority of staff, students and visitors who park legally, the University employs enforcement officers to target the illegal and inconsiderate parking of vehicles on campus.
Enforcement officers have the power to issue a £60 fixed-penalty notice to owners of illegally parked vehicles. This penalty is reduced to £30 if paid within 28 days.
No warning notices are issued.
Enforcement officers also have the power to clamp vehicles and to have them towed away. The towing fee is the clamping charge of £60 plus £45, which is the amount charged by the external operator for towing. Towing a vehicle is very much a last resort and is avoided if at all possible.
Any issues relating to enforcement of parking charges are dealt with through Security. Please email any queries to security@sussex.ac.uk
