ServiceService Level ProvisionResponsibilities of users

To maintain, as far as is reasonably practicable, a safe and secure environment for all campus users

A 24-hour every day presence with a staffed reception, patrols and monitoring of technical equipment designed to assist in this objective

To respond to emergency situations. All Security Officers are First Aid trained

To escort emergency vehicles on Campus

To monitor lone-worker procedures

To provide an after-dark escort facility to lone persons on campus and to and from Falmer Station

To comply with the University Ordinances and Regulations. To report any witnessed breaches thereof

To be aware of emergency procedures in relation to fire and telephone number in relation to all emergencies

To be aware of and follow procedure

To have a lone worker procedure and inform Security of such

Awareness of booking procedure and the need for reasonable notice

To protect University Property and the personal property of campus users

To patrol campus on a 24 hour basis ensuring that out of working hours premises are secure

To monitor CCTV and other crime prevention equipment

To respond to fire, plant and other alarms and to ensure that 'out of hours' emergency protection work is completed

To inform named person of an emergency situation arising in an 'out of hours' experimentation area

To advise on property protection matters

By analysis of data ensure that Security staff are used to the optimum affect and that Units are made aware of any crime trends/need for extra vigilance

From time to time conduct a property protection/anti-crime advertising campaign

To provide a security input into a Unit's training programme if required

To ensure each Unit has a securing procedure at the end of each working day, and during working hours has arrangements for staff to safely store personal property. (staff should be advised to bring to work only property required during this period).

To ensure all internal equipment is kept in good repair with sufficient lighting to allow meaningful use

To ensure Security has all information required to take such action outside normal working hours, including a 'call out' list of Unit staff

To ensure Risk Assessment has been completed and named emergency contact has been forwarded to Security

To ensure all physical protection measures do not contravene Health & Safety and comply with University policy. To ensure there are reasonable procedures in place to protect intellectual assets and prevent fraud.

Unit management to ensure staff are aware of information passed from Security.

Management to allow display of material in agreed part of building

Management's awareness of facility

Crime prevention, reporting and investigation

In addition to the steps shown under the Protection of Property section.

Public Disorder: To ensure all incidents are dealt with swiftly and appropriately

Other Crime: To ensure victim is helped with the reporting to police and evidence retention procedure. Where appropriate instigate University insurance claim.

To use information to assist in internal investigation and prevention of further crime

To report any such incident witnessed. To ensure compliance with licensing regulations

To report matter to police.

To supply all available relevant information pertaining to incident.

To assist with the free-flow of traffic throughout campus

To ensure that all impediments to the free-flow of traffic are removed as expeditiously as possible, while in the meantime assisting the flow of traffic

When there is a need for road/car park closure/diversions, to ensure sufficient temporary arrangements are in place to ensure safety/sufficient movement

To control entry to Visitors' Car Parks and restricted areas by means of remote control and CCTV use

To act as a storage agency for vehicles towed away by Traffic Unit

To comply with the Road Traffic Acts and University parking regulations

To comply with temporary arrangements

Units to ensure visitors have permits.

Campus users abide by regulations

To collect vehicles and pay University imposed financial penalty

Assisting in the maintenance of Health & Safety standards

To ensure that defects in paving, roads, lights or any other matter affecting Health & Safety are made safe temporarily and reported to the appropriate person for rectification

To carry-out a weekly check on all campus emergency telephones

To assist in a weekly check of fire alarms

On closure days, when the Security Unit is the sole representative of the University present, ensure that the University's duty of care to residents is discharged

To discharge their lawful duty by reporting any such finding to the Security Unit or Help Desk

To report any found defects to the Security Unit

Holders of disabled persons' equipment to check in working order

Appropriate arrangements to be made by various Units, including dissemination of information concerning arrangements to residents

Escorting of cash and other items of high value

To escort persons carrying such items in transit on campus in accordance with the Unit's Risk Assessment

To ensure the safekeeping of University valuable property during off-campus events

To ensure the safe transfer of examination papers between sites on campus

To take reasonable precautions, including variation in time for regular cash transfers

To ensure sufficient secure storage space available

To ensure safekeeping until arrival of Security Officer and that a person is available to receive at place of delivery

Terrorism and kindred matters

To ensure, through liaison with police and the Security Services, that any information in regard to potential terrorism and kindred matters likely to affect the University is disseminated to the relevant persons

That, as far as reasonably possible, particular 'at risk' visitors are protected while on University premises. (Risk Assessment in conjunction with police)

To ensure suitable precautions are taken to ensure the safety of any military personnel taking part in a University function

That appropriate action, based thereon, is taken to protect people and property,

To inform the Head of Security of University work taking place, which might attract such action

Details of such visits to be passed to Head of Security, giving as much notice as possible. Persons comply with any special arrangements deemed necessary

All such forthcoming events to be notified to Head of Security.

Unit concerned to plan for pre-event search of area

Protection of off-campus University property, staff and residential students

To advise on security matters, as and when required

To act as a liaison point for any emergency occurring 'out of hours' and ensuring necessary remedial action is taken

To attend locations 'out of hours' to physically check security of site

To liaise with Security Unit on such matters

To ensure residents are aware of emergency procedure.

To ensure Security Unit has all necessary information to deal with emergencies.

To supply sufficient data to compile Risk Assessment

University Ordinances and regulations

When breaches occur to supply the University with the evidence upon which to base proceedings

To ensure that all changes to the Ordinances and regulations are publicised.
