Recycling disposal guide
- Batteries - collections are carried out four times a year from 18 different locations, please refer to battery_collection_points for locations.
- Books - book bank outside York House.
- Cans - internal recycling bins are located in every academic/admin building, please use the bins labelled 'plastic bottles and cans' or 'co-mingled recycling'
You can also use our 'Minima' can and plastic bottle crushing machine at one of the following locations:
- Chichester 1 Common Room, outside the lecture theatre
- Falmer Sports Complex, next to the vending machines at reception
- Fulton Building social space on the ground floor
- Library Cafe opposite the vending machines
- Pevensey 2 Building, next to the vending machine at the undercroft entrance
- Sports Centre, near to vending machines
Residences please use the council bins (see map)
- Card - internal recycling bins are located in every academic/admin building they are labelled 'paper and card' or co-mingled.
Residences please use the council bins (see map) please remember to flatten your card before placing it in the bin
- Confidential Paper Waste for shredding - please contact your school office for supply of sacks.
- Corks - please send via internal mail to Rachael Adari, Hastings Building.
Clothes/Textiles - can be recycled in one of our clothes banks:
York House, outside the SU Shop - British Heart Foundation
Bus turning circle - Save the Children- CD's/DVD'S - please send via internal mail to Rachael Adari, Hastings Building
- Drinks Cartons - at York House and the bus turning circle
- Electrical Equipment - since January 2007 all waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) must be disposed of in an ethical way that can be traced. We use companies that are regulated by the Environment Agency and who hold 'Waste Transfer Certificates' and 'Waste Licenses'. All WEEE can be collected on request from allocated areas around campus. Please contact Rachael Adari on ext. 3314 or R.A.Adari@sussex.ac.uk to arrange collection. Items will be colected on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

- Food - we have composting facilities in the following locations:

Please place uncooked food, such as fruit peelings, tea bags, flowers etc in the compost bins. The contents of these bins is put onto the compost heaps at the student garden behind the Brighthelm residences or in the green waste compound.
- Furniture - can be recycled if it is in good order. Broken furniture cannot be passed on for reuse. Please send a list of items to be reused to R.A.Adari@sussex.ac.uk. These items are then circulated to relevant people around campus and usually re-homed. Damaged furniture is broken down and recycled.
- Glass - we do not have internal recycling facilities for glass in academic/admin buildings, but glass can be taken to your nearest external recycling facility, JMS loading bay, Mantell Building, bin compound outside Chichester 3, Sussex House bin compound, Falmer House, Trafford Centre bin compound, Pevensey 2 bin compound (see map)

- Ink cartridges/toner cartridges - please send via internal mail to Rachael Adari, Hastings Building. Residences - please use the collection boxes in the reception areas of the following locations:

- Metal - can be collected from allocated compounds around campus by request and recycled. Please contact Rachael Adari on ext 3314 or R.A.Adari@sussex.ac.uk.
- Mobile Phones - please send via internal mail to Rachael Adari, Hastings Building or Residences - Please use the collection boxes located in the reception areas of the following locations:

Recycling bags are provided in the residential kitchens, contents should go to the bring sites (see map)
Please recycle: white paper, coloured paper, envelopes (including window envelopes), catalogues, directories and yellow pages.
DO NOT put laminated paper into the recycling bins.
- Plastic - internal recycling bins are located in every academic/admin building, we recycle plastic bottles only (no lids). Do NOT place sandwich packaging, yoghurt pots, microwaveable containers etc in the recycling bins.
