Vice Chancellor's Office


The Vice-Chancellor’s Office is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the University.

The office comprises:

  • the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Adam Tickell
  • the Provost, Professor Saul Becker
  • the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Michael Davies (currently on sabbatical)
  • the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Students), Professor Kelly Coate
  • the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Resources), Professor Stephen Shute
  • and the Chief Operating Officer, Tim Westlake.

The Vice-Chancellor and President

The Vice-Chancellor and President is the University’s chief academic and executive officer. He is a member of Council, the University’s governing body, and Chair of Senate, the University’s academic body.

Professor Adam Tickell took up his post as Vice-Chancellor at Sussex in September 2016.

Executive Group (UEG)

The Vice-Chancellor and President is supported by the Executive Group, which comprises the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources.

The UEG advises the Vice-Chancellor, steers the University, and provides a formal management link between members of the executive and the Heads of School and heads of the Professional Services.
