Demand managed funding calls
Understand demand-managed funding calls and when to submit an application.
Demand-managed funding calls are those where the number of applications an institution can submit or the number of awards the funder will make is limited. In these cases, the University is required to coordinate internal review processes to preselect the applications which can be submitted to the funder for consideration.
- Leverhulme Trust Centenary Research Centre
-
In November 2026, the Leverhulme Trust will open a new Leverhulme Centenary Research Centre call, offering up to £10M over 10 years for centres to address the ‘big questions’ of our time and aspire to achieve a significant step-change in scholarship. The trust has a reputation for encouraging higher-risk research, which is therefore often fundamental or curiosity-driven and multi-disciplinary. The expectation is that centres will draw upon a range of disciplinary perspectives and expertise, perhaps bringing new disciplinary mixes to bear on a particular topic. Applications will be welcome on any topic in the trust’s remit.
Institutions will be able to submit a single bid so an internal selection process may be needed. If you are interested in applying to this call, please complete the expression of interest [DOCX 20.99KB] form and upload it to Worktribe by 12 noon, 30 March 2026. Following our approach to the last Leverhulme Centre call in 2024, we will bring together interested researchers at a workshop to discuss proposal ideas and to identify potential opportunities and collaborations. Please note this means we will share your EoI with other workshop participants. This approach ensures that we engage with the trust’s stated aim of not looking to fund existing centres or single areas of research but to encourage higher-risk, blue skies, multi-disciplinary research.
If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Foy D.Foy@sussex.ac.uk.
- EPSRC Strategic Infrastructure
-
The EPSRC Strategic Infrastructure call provides minimum funding of £400k for institutions to purchase strategic infrastructure including equipment, resources, or both.
EPSRC expects institutions to take a strategic approach to prioritise applications which are of the highest strategic importance as institutions can submit no more than six applications in the period from 18 June 2025 to 17 June 2026.
If you are interested in applying to this scheme, please discuss with your Associate Dean Research and Innovation, and Debbie Foy at D.Foy@sussex.ac.uk.
