Event description
The Green Healthcare Hub (GHH) is a UKRI-funded, interdisciplinary initiative focused on research, policy, and education in sustainable healthcare. Headquartered at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), with partners across the UK, the Hub responds to the urgent challenge that the NHS contributes approximately 4-5% of the UK’s carbon footprint. It aims to support the NHS in achieving its net zero targets and to serve as a model for other health systems in decarbonising healthcare.

The GHH brings together researchers across five interconnected themes: institutional and behavioural levers for change; sustainable medicines management; circular medical devices; digital and remote care pathways; and supporting healthcare professionals to deliver low‑carbon care.
This session provides an opportunity to learn about the Hub’s work, exchange perspectives across disciplines and sectors, and explore how research‑informed approaches can shape practical action in healthcare settings.
Format
The session will begin with a brief introduction to the GHH, followed by short “deep dive” talks (5-10 minutes each) from 2-3 researchers on key themes. These will feed into facilitated small-group discussions on challenges and opportunities for achieving a net zero NHS, including opportunities for interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration.
The session will conclude with informal networking over a light lunch. The event will be primarily in-person, with option for online attendance for introduction to the GHH and lightning talks.
