Turing Scheme Award
We have recently been awarded some Turing Scheme funding for a few students wanting to do research placements for Global Studies Postgraduate Taught Students only.
The Turing Scheme provides funding for those individuals undertaking education and training in the UK to go on study or work placements across the world. The funding can support placements between 14 and 42 days in duration and placement funding can be provided for placement activity dates up to 31 August 2026.
Priority may be given to students who have special educational needs or disabilities registered with Sussex’s Disability Advice team. There will be two grants ringfenced for students who are disadvantaged. Disadvantaged students may receive travel grant funding and higher rates of living cost in higher education.
If you meet the disadvantaged criteria you may be required to provide some evidence:
- someone who receives Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting:
- themselves
- themselves and someone who is dependent on them, such as a child or partner
- someone with experience of being in care or who is a care leaver – including anyone who is or has been in care, or from a looked after background, at any stage of their life
- a carer, meaning anyone who both:
- looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, and cannot cope without their support
- is not paid for this care
- someone who is estranged – including anyone who has had no contact with their biological or adoptive parents for 12 months or more, or the relationship with their parents has broken down within the last 12 months
- a refugee or an asylum seeker
- someone whose home address is in an Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) quintile 1 (Q1) postcode in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Applications will open on the 30 March 2026.
The deadline for applications will be 20 April 2026.
