Race Equality Week 2026
Posted on behalf of: EDI Unit
Last updated: Monday, 2 February 2026
From 2 to 8 February, the University is marking Race Equality Week, a UK wide initiative led by Race Equality Matters, which encourages organisations to reflect on race equality and take meaningful action in the workplace. The theme for Race Equlity Week 2026 is Change Needs All of Us.
Race Equality Week is an opportunity to pause, learn, and consider how we can all contribute to addressing racial inequality through our everyday work. At Sussex, this forms part of our ongoing commitments under the Race Equality Charter and our wider work to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for staff and students.
As part of our ongoing Race Equality Charter work, we will be launching an EDI Charter staff survey in the coming weeks. Your responses are important in helping us review progress against existing Race Equality Charter and Athena Swan action plans, and in informing ongoing and future action. Further details will be shared soon.
Staff are encouraged to engage with Race Equality Week in ways that feel meaningful to them, including taking time to explore resources, reflect on learning, or have conversations within teams.
