Updated Academic Misconduct Policy: changes for 2025/26

Following a full consultative process and Senate approval, the University’s new Academic Misconduct Policy is now in effect. Changes include clarificatory updates to the definitions of the types of misconduct and a move from ‘minor’ and ‘major’ forms of misconduct to levels 1/2/3. These categorise misconduct as ‘limited’, ‘significant’ or ‘severe’ giving more flexibility to Investigating Officers and Misconduct Panels.
There are also changes to how we process First Cases of suspected misconduct which aim to reduce anxiety and waiting times for students, reduce burden on staff, and create a better environment for supportive conversation about good academic practice.
Members of Faculty, and relevant PS teams, are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new policy, and the underpinning procedures.
