Mental health first aid
The university has a network of Mental Health First Aiders who are available to support staff. They are trained to listen non-judgementally, provide support and reassurance and signpost to appropriate professional services. If you are experiencing poor mental health, or are concerned about a colleague, talking to a trained Mental Health First Aider could help. Take a look through the profiles to find someone you'd be comfortable talking to.
Higgs boson 10 year celebration
To celebrate 10 years of the Higgs boson, the Sussex ATLAS group is inviting colleagues in MPS to a cake event on Wednesday 6th July at 4pm in the Pevensey II foyer. There will be nibbles, fruit juice and bubbly but please bring your own hot drink if you require one. Later on the same day you are invited to attend the celebratory talk on the physics of the Higgs boson which will be given by ATLAS-Sussex's own Dr Josh McFayden, at 6pm in Fulton A. Register here.
Charity cake event
Please join us in the Pevensey II foyer on Wednesday 20 July from 14:30-15:30 to eat cake. This month donations are going to the Dementia UK Admiral Nurses. Bring change and your own hot drink.
Boundary walk
Join Cassandra Churchwell for a boundary walk on Friday 22 July. It’s a great chance to meet with colleagues in fresh air and see some of the natural area surrounding campus. There are a few regulars who attend and it would also be great to see some new faces. Meet in the Pevensey II foyer at 12 noon. The walk takes approximately 1 hour.
Graduation
This year we are seeing three years of finalists graduating starting next week in a mega graduation event. The events team are looking for volunteers to help out. Please sign up.
Staff social club fund
The next deadline for applying for the staff social club fund is coming up. The newly established fund has to date supported the Beyond Physics Club and the MPS Football Club. For a chance to receive a share of the annual budget of £1000, set aside for staff to set up local, or school wide, activities, clubs or events, get your applications in by 31st August 2022. Please see the MPS wellbeing pages and contact Gemma Harman for more info.
Staff disability network
Members of staff who have a disability can join the Staff Disability Network, who meet termly and seek to raise awareness across campus. The network works collaboratively with the academic lead for disability as part of the Disability Equality and Inclusion Steering Group to ensure that staff are a key part of designing and delivering Accessible Sussex. If you would like to join the network or for further information, email staffdisabilitynetwork@sussex.ac.uk.
Staff workshops
There are spaces available on the final round of staff workshops for this academic year – all free for staff to book and all taking place online via Zoom. Please see the Organisational Development Calendar of Online Events and also the Management Essentials Programme for details of all the sessions. Get in touch with od@sussex.ac.uk and they can help recommend the best sessions for you.
You can find out more on the university’s staff wellbeing hub and the MPS wellbeing pages which have many tools and resources to look after your mental, physical and financial wellbeing as well as contact details for our Wellbeing and EDI Champions.
