Online Booking Procedure for SDU courses
If you do not have access to online booking via Sussex Direct, you can email sdu@sussex.ac.uk to request a place on your chosen course.
First logon to Sussex Direct using your ITS username and email password.- Click on the 'Personal' tab and then click on 'Staff Development' from the drop-down menu.
- You will then be able to see your personal 'Record of your staff development activities', and if you then click on the links for 'Search for Scheduled Courses' or 'Staff Development Course Listings and Booking Facility' you will find current courses and be able to book on them.
Search for Scheduled Courses:
The easiest way to book your training is to click on the 'Search for Scheduled Courses' facility. To search for a specific course title, you can enter either the whole course title (if you know it) or a keyword to bring up every course with that word in its title. Alternatively, you can choose to search for courses 'run by' all providing units, or by a specific unit. To bring up a straightforward list in date order of all courses provided by all units or your chosen unit, leave the 'course name' box blank and click on search. Once you find the course you want, click on the title to book your place.
You will then be taken onto the 'Training Course Booking Form' where you can request a place on the course if it isn't already full. You are required to enter a Department/Unit cost code which will only be used in the event of non-attendance. Then click on the 'Request' button to request a place on the course. You should then see the new course booking details against your records with the status of 'Requested' and the date. The 'requested' booking details will also be added to your 'Record of Your Staff Development Activities' list.
Staff Development Course Listings and Booking Facility:
This method of booking your place on a course is based more on a general 'theme' for the training (eg Management Development), and you can search here by which type of training you need.
Click on the '+' sign to expand the choices under each category; when you've found a course that interests you, click on the link for the course and follow the same process as above for booking a place.
Once you have requested a place:
You will receive an automatic email acknowledgement of your request for a place on your chosen course.
The Staff Development Unit will aim to process your application within the next five working days. If you have been allocated a place, the status of your booking will then change from 'Requested' to 'Booked' and you will be able to see when this has happened by checking on your 'Record Of Your Staff Development Activities' page. This is your confirmation of a place on your chosen Course. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you have 'requested' a place on one of the Courses organised by the SDU and the course is fully booked, you will receive an Email from SDU informing you; we will aim to do this within five working days. Final confirmation details will be sent out to participants by Email two weeks before the Course. If the Course is full, and you would like to be put on the reserve waiting list for your chosen Course date, or if you can't make the date and wish to be added to a waiting list, please Email sdu@sussex.ac.uk.
Cancelling a booking
If you subsequently want to cancel your place then you can do so by clicking the 'X' button next to the course title on your 'Record of Your Staff Development Activities' screen. For SDU and H & S Courses, if you are cancelling a booking less than three working days before the course start date, you will need to contact the course providing unit (SDU - sdu@sussex.ac.uk, or HSO - safety@sussex.ac.uk ). For ITS and other course providers please click on the Help button on your 'Record of Your Staff Development Activities' screen and read the instructions. Please note that a late or non cancellation may invoke a £25 late cancellation/no show penalty fee.
